Office of Government Affairs

The Office of Government Affairs is largely responsible for promoting NYU Langone Medical Center’s advocacy agenda and in that sense can be seen as the “lobbying arm” of the institution. The Office closely monitors and analyzes important proposed Federal, State, and City legislation, rules/regulations and budget proposals as they affect NYU Langone Medical Center. As part of its advocacy efforts, the Office of Government Affairs drafts correspondence to government officials from the Dean/CEO, Vice Deans, faculty members and other NYU staff on issues of importance to the Medical Center. The Office routinely meets with elected officials and their staff in New York City, Albany and Washington, DC. The Office of Government Affairs also arranges for Medical Center personnel to meet with elected officials and their staff, as well as government agency representatives to promote the Medical Center’s advocacy agenda or to pursue specific projects. This often involves coordinating visits to the Medical Center for federal, state, and city officials to meet with Leadership and tour areas of interest. The Office of Government Affairs secures government funding for various medical center programs and projects when City, State or Federal funds are available. The Office is also responsible for ensuring compliance with lobbying laws are the City, State and Federal level. Please be aware that there are strict requirements for reporting lobbying efforts made by any employee, and this Office must be made aware of any lobbying interactions so that they may be captured in lobbying reports for NYU Hospitals Center and NYU School of Medicine. There are also strict laws concerning meetings with government officials regarding policy issues or projects. The staff of the Office of Government Affairs is available to assist you or your department with any interactions with government officials to ensure that we comply with all applicable regulations. The Office performs a wide array of additional functions to meet the advocacy needs of the NYU Langone Medical Center. Members of our Office attend City, State, and Federal hearings, councils, and agency meetings. In addition, the Office of Government Affairs serves as a liaison to health-trade associations such as the Associated Medical Schools of New York (AMS), the American Hospital Association (AHA), the Hospital Association of New York State (HANYS), Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), and Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The Office maintains working relationships with local Community Boards and takes on specific projects as issues arise.
