Office of Government Affairs

The Office of Government Affairs closely monitors and analyzes important proposed Federal, State, and City legislation, rules/regulations and budget proposals as it affects the NYU Langone Medical Center and the NYU School of Medicine. The Office of Government Affairs secures government funding for various medical center programs and projects. Because of these efforts, the Office of Government Affairs is seen as the “lobbying arm” for the NYU Langone Medical Center. Certain staff members of the Office of Government Affairs are registered lobbyists at the federal, state and city levels. Please be aware that there are strict laws concerning lobbying activities and anyone interested in meeting with government officials regarding policy issues or projects should contact this office to assure compliance.

The Office performs a wide array of functions to meet the advocacy needs of the NYU Langone Medical Center. Members of our Office attend City, State, and Federal hearings, councils, and agency meetings. In addition, the Office of Government Affairs serves as a liaison to health-trade associations such as the Associated Medical Schools of New York (AMS), the American Hospital Association (AHA), the Hospital Association of New York State (HANYS), Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), and Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).

The Office of Government Affairs drafts correspondence to government officials for the CEO/Dean, President, Vice Deans, faculty members, and other NYU staff on issues of importance to the Medical Center. The Office promotes an advocacy agenda by coordinating visits to the Medical Center for federal, state, and city officials. In addition, the Office organizes meetings and visits to Albany and to Washington, D.C., for Medical Center personnel to meet with elected officials and their staff, as well as government agency representatives to promote the Medical Center’s advocacy agenda or to pursue specific projects. The staff of the Office of Government Affairs is available to assist you or your department with interactions with government officials.
